Tanzer Scores Herencia Altes 2010
THE BEST NEW WINES FROM SPAIN, PART TWO
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Issue #159
Garnatxa Blanca Terra Alta 2010, 88 points. $10. Pale yellow. Spicy lemon pith and green apple on the nose, with white pepper and honeysuckle adding lift. Shows deeper tangerine and mango on the palate, with a bitter herbal quality adding bite. Finishes pleasantly bitter, with good lift and a touch of closing warmth. This wine reminded me of a good Chateauneuf du Pape blanc, which makes it an excellent value.
Garnatxa Negra Terra Alta 2010, 90 points. $10. Bright ruby. High-pitched aromas of raspberry and floral oils, with a note of white pepper gaining strength with air. Juicy, precise red and dark berry flavors show impressive depth and clarity and gain flesh with air. Finishes sweet and long, with lingering red fruit notes and no rough edges. This is an outstanding value.

Eternum Viti highlighted by the San Francisco Chronicle as one of the wines to watch from Spain. ...2007 Bodegas Abanico Eternum Viti Toro ($24): Big, sleek Toro, with at least 50 percent new oak for this 100 percent Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo). That sweet oak character is in full effect; it's opulent and cocoa-edged, flashy and made for impact and enjoyment. Toro is determined to make stylish wines, and this is a fine example of accomplishing just that.

Tempestad Godello is rated 89 points by Wine Spectator. ... The wine, priced at a reasonable $38 on the list, is made in a modern style, partly cool-fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness, partly barrel-fermented to add complexity. Las Colinas del Ebro Rosado .. the best rosé of the summer in the US? According to Michael Franz it is.. Las Colinas del Ebro, Terra Alta (Catalonia, Spain) Syrah Garnacha 2007 ($12, Grapes of Spain): One of the very best rosés I’ve tasted this year, this delicious wine offers vibrant aromas and flavors of red cherries and wild strawberries, but delivers them on a light, elegant platform. Crisp and refreshing, it is delightful for stand-alone shipping, yet delivers enough flavor impact to work with many light summer dishes. 89 Michael Franz Jul 8, 2008.
